Nur jedem das Seine, BWV 163
To each his own!
This Bach Vespers will feature some of the wonderful artists who frequently collaborate with the Bach Ensemble. Prelude music will be provided by the St. Thomas Ensemble-in-Residence Seven Hills Baroque, and their Artistic Directors Joshua Bermudez, Michael Delfin, and Lauren McAllister. Bach Ensemble Assistant Conductor Matthew Lee will lead the Bach Choir in a performance of My Shepherd Will Supply My Need by the American composer Mac Wilberg. Cantata 163 was composed in 1715, early in Bach’s professional life while he was the court composer in the Weimar Court. The most notable movement of the piece is the bass aria, which futures to unusual use of two obligato cellos. Reception to follow
