Ich hab in Gottes Herz und Sinn, BWV 92
I have given over to God’s heart and mind
Cincinnati Symphony Principal Oboe and Bach Ensemble member Dwight Parry performs an oboe concerto by Italian Domenico Cimarosa. Cimarosa was based in Naples, but active in Rome, Venice and Florence during the later half of the 18th century. At first glance, Cantata 92 might seem uninspired, as Bach reused the same chorale tune for the performance in January of 1725 as he had the following week. However, the work is a tour-de-force of dramatic music, word-painting, with a wide emotional and spiritual range. The Bach Choir will sing a setting of the Magnificat by the English composer and current Director of Music at Christ Church, Bronxville (NY) Philip Stopford. Reception to follow
