Aus tiefer Not Schrei ich zu dir, BWV 38
Out of the depths I cry to you
Assistant Conductor Matthew Lee leads the Bach Ensemble in a performance of Cantata 38, a haunting setting of Martin Luther’s penitential hymn paraphrasing Psalm 130. This observation of Palm Sunday evening includes the ancient echoes of Palestrina’s Sicut cervus, Bach’s aria “Von den stricken”, and the Ricercar a 6 from Musikalisches Opfer, BWV 1079 .
