The Bach Ensemble of St. Thomas, under the direction of Carlton Monroe, will perform J. S. Bach’s cantata Du sollt Gott, deinen Herren, lieben, BWV 77, as part of the Bach Vespers service at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Sunday, May 5, 5:00 p.m.
The performance will feature the Bach Choir, a 12-voice ensemble of professional signers from throughout the Cincinnati area. Soloists include soprano Vidita Kanniks, alto Lauren McAllister, tenor and B.E.S.T. Young Artist Ryan Montgomery, and bass Michael Young.
The performance of Cantata 77 marks the 50th cantata of Bach’s performed by the Bach Ensemble. Bach wrote hundreds of sacred cantatas during his life, of which nearly 200 have survived. The Bach Ensemble is in the midst of its “200 in 20 Project” attempting to perform all of the cantatas over the course of twenty years.
Following the Vespers service, patrons and performers can gather at the Little Miami Brewing Company at 208 Mill St. in Old Milford to celebrate the end of another wonderful season of Bach Vespers.
