Lenten Bach Vespers

We invite you to join the Bach Ensemble of St. Thomas and vocal soloists under Dr. Carlton Monroe for another evening exploring worship through lens of the incredible music of J. S. Bach. This month we present Cantata 131, Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, Herr, zu dir (“Out of the depths, I cry unto thee, Lord”). Written early in Bach’s musical career, Cantata 131 is a deeply reflective and emotional piece that is the perfect focus for a Holy Lenten season. Be sure to come early and hear more information about the piece at our Pre-Vespers Lectures at 4:30pm before each Vespers service, led by Xavier University’s Prof. Douglas Easterling.
