Season Opening Concert at St. Boniface

The Cincinnati Bach Ensemble will begin its 2014-2015 with a concert of baroque concerti and cantatas in the glorious acoustics of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Northside on Sunday, September 14, at 4pm.

The CBE, led by Artistic Director Carlton Monroe, performed Bach’s Concerto for Flute in a minor, Albinoni’s Concerto for Oboe in d minor, No. 2, as well as two Bach church cantatas: Leibster Jesu, mein Verlangen, BWV 32, and, Am Abend aber desselbigen Sabbats, BWV 42. Joining the CBE are soloists Dwight Parry, oboe, and Randy Bowman, flute of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra; and soprano YoonGeong Lee, alto Kate Tombaugh, tenor Shawn Mlynek, and baritone Jonathan Cooper.

This concert is free, although donations will be accepted.

This concert will begin a season of eight performances, including seven Bach Vespers at St. Thomas. The Cincinnati Bach Ensemble serves as Ensemble-in-Residence at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where it plays for this monthly evening service featuring the cantatas of J. S. Bach.

Season highlights include: Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, BWV 140 in November, guest choir Cincinnati Camerata and conductor Brett Scott in March, Bach’s great motet Jesu, meine Freude sung by the Cincinnati Bach Choir in March, and an April Bach Vespers featuring the combined choirs of St. Thomas and Christ Church Cathedral. In May the CBE and St. Thomas ensembles will present a new cantata by Douglas Pew, Composer-in-Residence at St. Thomas, and composer of the new opera Penny, being premiere at Washington National Opera in 2015.
